Preventative dental care

Preventative dental care

When it comes to your dental care, prevention is always better than cure – for both your oral health and your wallet.

Modern dentistry focuses firmly on prevention to help maintain healthy teeth and gums. By seeing you regularly this will stop them from getting any worse.

Regular visits to the dentist and hygienist mean any issues can be spotted early and addressed before they progress. These problems can include:

Routine dental examinations

From a young age, most of us have been visiting the dentist routinely to keep our dental health in order. Dental examinations allow us to closely monitor your oral health. How often you are seen is tailored to your individual needs.

During these appointments, we carry out a thorough assessment of your teeth, gums and mouth. We may take x-rays to see under the surface and check for any cavities or infections.

We provide brushing advice if needed as well as any dietary advice.

Hygiene appointments

Your gum health is essential to the health of your mouth and body. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the UK. Dental Hygiene Therapists are clinicians who focus on treating and preventing gum disease. Regular visits to the Dental Hygiene Therapist will help to keep your teeth clean and free from plaque and tartar build-ups. A cleaner mouth means your natural teeth will last far longer and you will have a healthier body.

Hygiene appointments consist of a ‘clean and polish’. Even if you brush your teeth every day, this is not enough to prevent the gradual build-up of tartar. A thorough professional clean, at least twice a year, can remove staining, tartar and plaque deposits.

The latest research has shown keeping your gums healthy reduces the chances of getting heart disease, diabetes, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis and Alzheimer’s.
